Job 6430: Tax Manager

Location: TX-Houston  
Southwest (AZ, AR, NM, OK & TX)
Salary Range: NA
Bonus & Incentives: Bonus available.
Position Responsibilities: Accountabilities: · Knowledge of US taxation of upstream and downstream oil and gas activities. · Knowledge of US taxation of intellectual property and cost sharing. · Individually, and through the resources of the U.S. Tax Organization, provide pro-active, value-added tax counsel (including training and tax awareness presentations) to the business supported, and to the Tax Compliance and Tax Defense groups in respect of those businesses. · Develop, monitor and pro-actively respond to legislative and regulatory issues that affect the businesses in the U.S. · Knowledge of international taxation, including tax treaties and permanent establishments. · Knowledge of Holding Companies’ tax issues. · Own and cause delivery of the U.S. share of the annual tasks and targets for the businesses supported. · Ensure that Tax Assurance Projects are properly implemented. · Effective representation of the Company in industry and professional organizations. Dimensions: · Multi-country, with a North America focus, but involving South America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. · Success case to have material impact on Group Reserves Replacement. Special Challenges: · To be able to gain a rapid understanding of business supported and the US tax issues that will arise from deployment of particular business processes in both the upstream and downstream area. · To be able to gain a rapid understanding of the essentials of any joint venture project requiring support at short notice · To acquire and maintain a full understanding of the group’s intellectual property and cost-sharing arrangements.
Education and Certifications/Licenses: Bachelors
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications: · Licensed CPA or attorney. · Experience in business taxation commensurate with Job Grade, minimum 10+ years. · Strong understanding of U.S. oil and gas taxation in both the upstream and downstream. · Strong understanding of U.S. taxation of corporations, partnerships, and business transactions (mergers, acquisitions, divestments, accounting methods, etc.). · Strong understanding of US taxation of intellectual property and cost sharing arrangements. · Strong understanding of international taxation in the context of the group supported. · Strong understanding of the group corporate structure and governance processes · Effective communicator of complex tax issues, both written and oral. · Ability to adapt to new or changing circumstances and ambiguous or pressured situations. · Demonstrates innovation and creativity in the evaluation of issues and development of possible solutions. · Ability to evaluate tax risks, balance risk with business objectives, and make recommendations/take decisions that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the business. · Ability to make the tough decisions, even though unpopular · Effective client management and task prioritization skills. · Effective team player on tax and cross-functional/cross-sector teams.
