9611 VP Tax Accounting Job

Location: KS-Kansas City  
Lower Midwest (IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, MO, NE & OH)
Salary Range: 150,000 - 150,000
Total Compensation: 175,000 - 175,000
Job Description: VP Tax Accountant will be responsible for tax planning and tax strategy. Federal, State, Local. FAS 109, FIN 48. Job description lists mixture of compliance and tax planning functions (see below), but company currently has tax compliance outsourced and intends to keep it that way for the time being. Looking for candidates with great research, strategy, and planning experience. Selections from job description: Research and Planning: Plan, direct and provide management recommendations with respect to federal, state and local tax implications of proposed business transactions and/or federal and state legislation, regulations and/or rulings. • Review current operations and transactions. Propose changes to optimize tax structures consistent with business needs and/or objectives (including specific plans to utilize available federal and state income tax attributes and eliminate stranded state tax losses). • Assist in the development of tax planning strategies and due diligence as required. • Develop and maintain relationships with various enterprise functions within the company in order to gain compliance, accounting and reporting efficiencies. • Establish, document and maintain process flows and descriptions and the applicable related internal controls as required by Sarbanes-Oxley. Income Tax Accounting (FAS 109) and (FIN 48): Planning, direction and review of all assigned federal and state income tax accounting with a comprehensive understanding of FAS 109 and the provisions of FIN 48 including maintenance of required Book to Tax Basis Balance Sheets. • Review, monitor and provide all current and deferred tax accruals (and related valuation allowances), reserves, and tax return to provision reconciliations including the appropriate detailed supporting documentation in accordance with FAS 109 and FIN 48. • Prepare and collaborate with Finance and Accounting group to ensure completeness and accuracy of income tax disclosures and help establish and ensure appropriate controls over accounting for income taxes. • Monitor and assess the effective tax rate specific to the company’s Business operating entities. • Implement and maintain financial systems and achieve reporting synergies.
Education and Certifications/Licenses: Bachelors, None, None
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of eight years experience in a public and/or corporate tax accounting environment Comprehensive knowledge of Income Tax Accounting under FAS 109 and FIN 48 This position demands a high degree of accountability, accuracy, initiative, and timeliness. The candidate must be self-motivated, yet comfortable in a team environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills Previous experience as Supervisor w/management direct reports CPA or advanced degree or equivalent work experience Knowledge of CorpTax, Hyperion, PeopleSoft, SAP, Essbase, TaxStream PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications: Strong preference for candidate with substantial Big 6 tax consulting experience as well as some corporate experience. Company is pre-IPO, ideal candidate has prepared a company for public offering.
